EXPLORING THE COAST

The Bullers of Buchan is a collapsed sea cave forming an almost circular chasm above cliffs which are home to many seabird species including puffins, and — a little further afield — is Pennan, the picturesque former fishing village made famous by the 1983 movie Local Hero, and Macduff Marine Aquarium where the focus is on local marine life with a central open tank where divers hand-feed fish. Kinnaird Lighthouse in Fraserburgh is a former castle, converted to a lighthouse in 1787 and now a visitor attraction with adjacent museum. Peterhead boasts the oldest salmon house in Scotland, dating back to 1585, where you can witness the ancient art of smoking salmon before buying some!
